How often do wood floors need to be refinished?

This will depend partially on the type of floors you have, as well as how durable your finish is and the type of foot traffic you have in your home or business. Areas that are out of the way will not generally need to be refinished as often as those that are in high traffic areas. Homes with children or indoor pets will also generally need refinishing sooner. On average, hardwoods will only need to be refinished every 7 or more years.
Why do I need to have a wood oil or other protection on my deck? Do I still need more protection if I have weather treated wood?

Because your deck is constantly exposed to the elements, the wood will need to be sealed in order to protect it from water and sun damage. Occasionally, it will need to be resealed, and in some cases (especially if you wait too long to add more protection), you may need to have it fully refinished.
Can you refinish wood floors as many times as you want?

You can reseal hardwood floors as many times as needed. However, sanding is another story. Because you are removing the surface area of the wood with each sanding, you can only do it so many times before you won’t have enough wood left to continue. Most floors can be fully sanded at least 4 times, and many harder and higher quality woods can be sanded down even more. The number of times you can sand your own floors will depend highly on how thick the wood is to begin with.
